So we all know what this blog is going to be about, I'm overweight, been overweight since I can remember, people are overweight for different reasons. Here’s something you may not hear very often from someone who's overweight… You're not a jerk if you're not attracted to bigger people, BUT you are a jerk if you're rude about it. I have not always been as confident as I am, and part of that was because other people constantly telling me that I'm unattractive simply because I'm overweight. Even my family would tell me this, I'd hear things like
"women pay serious money to have hair like yours"
"People pay money for lips like yours"
"If you just lost some weight you'd be so beautiful"
This is detrimental to a young psyche, growing up having everyone around you tell you how great you would be if you just lost weight. There are several reasons why one would be overweight, my grandparents are amazing hard working people, they really are. My grandfather is over 80 years old and works morning to night and has nothing to show for it, my grandmother has arthritis so bad she can't really use her hands. Growing up we lived with them because my dad was in the army and my mom worked a lot. My grandparents were often responsible for feeding us, because of their age we went out to eat a lot. Back in the early to mid 90's a lot of fast food places have a night where kids meals were really cheap with the purchase of an adult meal. We would have cereal for breakfast, school lunch, then fast food for dinner. Often the only home cooked meal we'd get was Sunday afternoons after church.
Like height, hair color, eye color and tattoos; weight is just another feature of a person. Sure its one they could change, and maybe they want to, maybe they don’t. Whatever your type is that is fine, as long as you're polite to those that you're not attracted to. Now if they then start being an ass to you, of course you can be one back, but otherwise being respectful and polite is a way better option.
